In this week’s Independent: “Alma del Pueblo Taking Shape”

Sandwiched between two theaters and flanked by Santa Barbara’s main drag of retail and restaurants, the high-end, mixed-use Alma del Pueblo project on Chapala Street is quickly taking shape. This week, owner/developer Marge Cafarelli announced that the project’s Santa Barbara Public Market — an airy, high-ceiling space to be filled with 15 independent merchants selling artisanal food and wine out of farmers’ market–type stalls — has picked 11 of those vendors who signed five-year leases with five-year options.

Alma del Pueblo Set for Summer/Fall Opening

Creating high performance, sustainably designed housing for an increasing population wanting to live downtown, the Alma del Pueblo mixed-use project is under construction and on track to deliver 37 residential units this fall. In addition, there is 27,711 square feet of commercial space of which 19,800 square feet is the Santa Barbara Public Market, which will open in the summer of 2013 and will offer a mix of best in class food and wine merchants. The new development will invigorate a half-block in the heart of Santa Barbara’s cultural and performing arts district.
