Flagstone Pantry in Santa Barbara
Flagstone Pantry was launched in Santa Barbara on a hunch that the opportunity to bake dairy-free, egg-free and gluten-free goodies for a local coffee house could turn into much more. Their specialty baked goods can be found at Handlebar Coffee Roasters at 128 E. Canon Perdido Street.
Chef/owner, Kristen Desmond, graduated from Natural Gourmet Institute’s chef training program in New York City, with a focus in health-supportive culinary arts.
In New York City, Kristen completed an apprenticeship with Executive Chef Jeremy Bearman at Michelin-starred Rouge Tomate where the focus is on modern, healthy American cuisine. Kristen also worked in the kitchen for Executive Chef Dean Rucker at Golden Door spa and catering for Jose Andres Catering in Washington, DC.
At Three Stone Hearth, a community supported kitchen in Berkeley, California, Kristen prepared delicious, nutrient-dense food using traditional methods advocated by the Weston A. Price Foundation.
After moving to Santa Barbara, Kristen spent the better part of two years baking and cooking full-time at a locally owned gourmet market before launching Flagstone Pantry.
“We personally source, select and prepare fresh food on a small scale,” Kristen explains. “We focus on wholesome, natural, seasonal ingredients. We don’t use additives, preservatives, artificial colors or ingredients we can’t pronounce.” Vegan, dairy-free, egg-free and gluten-free goodness!
Flagstone Pantry’s specialty baked goods can be found at Handlebar Coffee Roasters at
128 E. Canon Perdido Street, in downtown Santa Barbara.
“A best seller at Handlebar is our Cowboy Cookie. It is dairy-free (no butter) and egg-free and loaded with natural peanut butter, coconut, chocolate chips and oats,” Kristen comments.
“The Banana Nut Muffins are also popular; they are made with gluten-free ingredients. We also have a seasonal Blueberry Scone that is vegan and packed with blueberries, fresh lemon juice and zest
and poppy seeds.”
In the fall, 2013, Flagstone Pantry will open a retail location at the Santa Barbara Public Market at
Alma del Pueblo.
In addition to their baked goods, the new location will be offering healthy gourmet soups, sandwiches, salads, sides, main dishes, sauces, dips and dressings, prepared fresh daily, for you to enjoy at home or on the spot.
